NXP Semiconductors announces the IW612, the industry's first secure tri-band radio supporting Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2 and 802.15.4 protocols. The new device is part of NXP's new family of tri-band radios that enable seamless and secure connectivity in smart home, automotive and industrial use cases and support the new groundbreaking Matter connectivity protocol. The IW612 frees consumers from the constraints of a single protocol ecosystem, and they can enjoy seamless interoperability between different ecosystems and wireless network technologies. In addition, developers can take advantage of NXP's advanced coexistence features to support three radio frequencies simultaneously on a single device, reducing cost and development time.
One of the challenges facing IoT is interoperability constraints, where consumers cannot mix smart home products from different companies. Designed by industry leaders including NXP, Matter, a new standardized IoT connectivity protocol, unifies the way devices communicate and unblocks usage between different manufacturers or wireless technologies. The protocol enables more connections to be created between more objects, thereby simplifying the development process for manufacturers and enhancing compatibility for consumers.
To support new-age interoperability, the IW612 is the first to integrate three advanced radio connections into the same device, delivering robust radio performance while integrating a high-performance RF front-end. This combination of technologies enables true interoperability of the smart home, significantly reducing development time, simplifying design and reducing costs. This highly integrated solution helps developers overcome hardware coexistence challenges while supporting advanced security protocols to help defend against the growing security threats of the Internet of Things.
The IW612 helps combat the persistent security threats facing smart devices with NXP's network security solutions based on years of technical experience. The IW612 provides secure boot, debugging, and over-the-air firmware updates for continuous protection, while also using the WPA3 security standard and hardware encryption engine.
