Microchip announced the addition of the fourth generation of enterprise NVMe SSD controllers to the Flashtec family

Microchip Technology has announced the addition of the Flashtec NVMe 3108 PCIe fourth generation Enterprise NVMe SSD controller to its Flashtec family. The 8-channel Flashtec NVMe 3108 complements the 16-channel Flashtec NVMe 3016 and provides a complete set of PCIe fourth-generation NVMe SSD solutions to meet the diverse storage requirements of the data center.

     With the increasing number of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) workloads supported by data centers, the market demands cloud-level infrastructure with wider storage bandwidth and higher standalone storage density. As a result, the market trend is toward smaller, non-volatile memory high-speed (NVMe™) SSDS that support fourth-generation PCIeO, in line with industry standards such as M.2 and SINA's new Enterprise and Data Center SSD Form Factor (EDSFF) E1.S. These SSDS require controllers with small size and low power to drive NAND flash to its full potential while maintaining the rich feature set and reliability required for this enterprise-class NVMe SSD.

 

     Microchip Technology Inc. announced the addition of the Flashtec family of Flashtec NVMe 3108 PCIe fourth-generation enterprise NVMe SSD controllers. The 8-channel Flashtec NVMe 3108 complements the 16-channel Flashtec NVMe 3016 and provides a complete set of PCIe fourth-generation NVMe SSD solutions to meet the diverse storage requirements of the data center.

 

     Microchip's new Flashtec NVMe 3108 PCIe fourth Generation NVMe SSD controller supports a wide range of compact SSDS with high energy efficiency, performance, and reliability, while providing industry-leading security features. The Flashtec NVMe 3108 delivers more than 1 million input/output IOPS per second and more than 6 GB of continuous bandwidth per second under random workload conditions. The new solution provides end-to-end enterprise-class data integrity with high reliability and stringent security features, such as secure boot with hardware trust roots, ensuring data center operators can provide the highest level of available data security. Eight programmable flash channel controllers coupled with an exceptionally powerful error correction engine support three layer cell (TLC) and four layer cell (QLC) NAND technology for the next generation of high level numbers, ahead of the future development of memory needs.

     Flashtec NVMe 3108 provides the flexibility of a programmable multi-core Arm® subsystem. By combining multiple hardware acceleration engines, users can optimize their SSD solution for a variety of applications, including SSDS that support single root IO virtualization technology (SR-IOV), partition namespace SSDS, key-value SSDS and open-channel SSDS, while maintaining the required performance. In addition, Flashtec NVMe 3108 supports dual-port working mode, providing a high availability solution for external storage system applications.
