Microchip NVMe and 24G SAS tri-mode RAID and HBA storage adapters were mass-produced

     Microchip Technology announced the availability of Adaptec Smart Storage PCIe 4th Generation NVMe Tri-Mode SmartRAID 3200 RAID Adapter. And Adaptec SmartHBA 2200 and Adaptec HBA 1200 host bus adapters. These adapters enable next-generation NVMe and 24G SAS connectivity and manageability with market-leading performance while providing a new level of security required for next-generation data center infrastructure.

     Andrew Dieckmann, assistant vice president of product marketing for Microchip's Data Center Solutions business unit, said: "Microchip's new Adaptec Tri-mode storage adapter delivers the performance, connectivity, security, and ease of management that cloud and server OEM customers have come to expect from the latest server storage solutions based on PCIe fourth generation. "These adapters have the flexibility to support 12G SAS and 6G SATA SSDS and HDDS with the latest NVMe and 24G SAS media, setting a new industry benchmark for storage adapter security and performance."

     Microchip smart storage adapters offer NVMe 4.0 and/or 24G SAS drive support with 8 to 32 ports and x8 and x16 PCIe Gen 4 CPU interface options for up to 4x performance improvements over previous generations. Advanced features, such as Dynamic Channel multiplexing (DCM) SAS link aggregation technology, provide more than 99% of the link efficiency of the extender connection, significantly improving the performance of high-density storage solutions.

     Microchip's smart storage adapters utilize a market-leading smart storage protocol stack and integrated management tools. This latest generation adapter adds support for the SFF-TA-1005 industry standard for Universal Backplane Management (UBM) and Intel® Virtual Pin Port (VPP) for smart backplane management, as well as the Distributed Management Task Force's standards-based Platform-level Data Model (PLDM) /Redfish® Device Enable (RDE). Simplifies out-of-band management via MCTP/BMC.

Microchip's new generation of adapters includes the industry's broadest range of secure storage options with support for self-encrypting drives (SED) and maxCrypto™ controller-based encryption (CBE). These new features extend the encryption boundaries, not just for SED devices, but now to protect data stored in caches as well. Microchip's Trusted Platform technology provides the required supply chain security and aligns with the Open Compute Security Project program.
