Microchip Introduces New Mid-Bandwidth FPGA Devices, Enabling Leaps in Power and Performance for Edge Computing Systems

Medium bandwidth field programmable gate array (FPGA) and FPGA System-level chip (SoC) devices launched by Microchip Technology Inc reduce the static power consumption by half and have the smallest heating region, optimal performance and computing power compared with all similar devices

     Edge computing systems require compact programmable devices with low power consumption and a heat-generating area small enough to eliminate the requirement for fans and other heat-dissipating components, while providing powerful computing power. Medium-bandwidth Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) and FPGA System-on-Chip (SoC) devices from Microchip Technology Inc cut static power consumption in half, offer the smallest heat-generating area, optimal performance and The computing power perfectly solves the above challenges.

     Microchip's newest low-density PolarFire FPGA (MPF050T) and newly added PolarFire SoC (MPFS025T) exceed the performance/power metrics of any low-density FPGA or SoC FPGA equivalent on the market with ultra-low power consumption, with fast FPGA fabric and Signal processing power, the most powerful transceiver, and the industry's only composite processor based on a hardened application-grade RISC-V® architecture with 2 megabytes (MB) of L2 cache and low-power DDR4 (LPDDR4) memory support. The product portfolio includes multi-core RISC-V SoCs with 25K logic elements and FPGAs with 50K logic elements, opening endless possibilities for new applications. They are ideal for low-power smart embedded vision applications and thermally constrained automotive, industrial automation, communications, defense and IoT systems where power and performance are hard.

     The new PolarFire devices work with Microchip's range of devices to provide complete system solutions for applications such as intelligent embedded vision, machine learning, security, aerospace and defense, and embedded computing. They also provide plug-and-play solutions for power and timing designs. Several major customers are using PolarFire devices to solve various design challenges.
