Microchip Announces Industry's First Automotive-Grade-Certified Gen 4 PCIe® Switch to Advance Autonomous Driving Ecosystem

Microchip Technology Inc announced the launch of the market's first automotive grade certified fourth-generation PCIe® switch. The newly released Switchtec™ PFX, PSX, and PAX switch solutions provide cutting-edge computational interconnection capabilities for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

      High-speed, low-latency connectivity solutions for distributed heterogeneous computing systems are essential elements for enabling next-generation autonomous driving applications. Microchip Technology Inc announces the market's first automotive-qualified Gen 4 PCIe® switches. The newly announced Switchtec™ PFX, PSX and PAX switching solutions provide cutting-edge computing interconnect capabilities for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

      Krishna Mallampati, associate director of marketing and applications for Microchip's Data Center Solutions business unit, said: "Microchip's Switchtec automotive family of Gen 4 switches provides the lowest latency and high bandwidth performance required to connect CPUs and accelerators within ADAS. We It’s great to see the maturing of collaborations with key technology partners and customers over the years to bring these solutions to market.”

      Switchtec Gen 4 PCIe switches provide high-speed interconnects that support distributed real-time safety-critical data processing in ADAS architectures. PCIe is becoming the computing interconnect solution of choice in the automotive industry for the same reasons it is widely used in the data center market, providing ultra-low latency and low power bandwidth scalability for CPUs and specialized accelerator devices.

      Michael Truog, senior director of automotive platform architecture at NVIDIA, said: "Microchip's solution to meet the stringent requirements of the automotive market is an important milestone and one of the results of a close collaboration with NVIDIA. Microchip's automotive PCIe switches offer flexible high-speed SoC and GPU connectivity on the NVIDIA DRIVE platform.”
