Maxim's MAX22200 is an eight-channel 36 V serial control solenoid driver channel with a low-impedance (typical value 200 mω) push-pull output stage, pull-and-pour current drive capability, and a maximum drive current of 1 ARMS. A serial peripheral interface (SPI) is provided to control each channel individually, and daisy-chain configurations are also supported

     Maxim's MAX22200 is an octal 36 V serially controlled solenoid driver channel with a low impedance (200 mΩ typical) push-pull output stage, sink-source drive capability, and a maximum 1 ARMS drive current. A Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is provided to control each channel individually and also supports a daisy-chain configuration.

     The device half-bridge can be configured as a low-side or high-side driver. Additionally, pairs of half bridges can be paralleled to double the drive current, or act as a full bridge to drive up to four latching valves (bistable valves) or four brushed DC motors.

     Two control methods are supported: Voltage Driven Regulation (VDR) and Current Driven Regulation (CDR). In VDR, the device outputs a PWM voltage with a duty cycle programmed using SPI. For a given supply voltage and solenoid resistor, the output current is proportional to the programmed duty cycle. In CDR mode, an internal integrated lossless current sense (ICS) circuit senses the output current and compares it to an internal programmable reference current.

     The MAX22200 is packaged in a compact 5 mm x 5 mm 32-pin TQFN package and is specified over the -40ºC to +85ºC temperature range. The MAX22200EVKIT# evaluation kit provides a proven design for evaluating the MAX22200 solenoid driver.

     The MAX22200 integrated circuit (IC) is an octal half-bridge serially controlled solenoid driver with current regulation. The EV kit supports serial control of the MAX22200 and fault monitoring via the onboard USB-to-SPI interface and the MAX32625 microcontroller. It includes a graphical user interface (GUI) to perform the functions of the MAX22200 IC, making it a complete PC-based evaluation system.
