
Maxim's MAX16712 is a dual-output, fully integrated, high-efficiency, step-down DC/DC switching regulator. The device operates from a 2.7 V to 16 V input supply, and each output is adjustable from 0.5 V to 5.8 V. The IC can supply up to 6 A of load current per output. The two outputs can be paralleled as a single-output dual-phase regulator, supporting load currents up to 12 A. The device's switching frequency is configurable from 500 kHz to 2.0 MHz and provides the ability to optimize designs in solution size and performance.
The MAX16712 uses fixed-frequency, current-mode control with internal compensation. The dual switching regulator operates in 180° out-of-phase mode. The IC features an advanced modulation scheme (AMS) and optional discontinuous current mode (DCM) operation for higher performance. Operational settings and configurable features are also selectable by connecting a pin-stripped resistor between the PGM0 pin and ground. The MAX16712 features an internal 1.8 V LDO output that powers the gate driver (VCC) and internal circuitry (AVDD). The MAX16712 integrates multiple protections, including positive and negative overcurrent protection, output overvoltage protection, and overtemperature protection, to ensure a robust design. The device is housed in a compact 2.2 mm x 3.5 mm wafer level package (WLP). It supports -40°C to +125°C junction temperature operation.
The MAX16712EVKIT# evaluation kit (EV kit) is a reference platform designed for evaluating the MAX16712 dual-output, fully integrated, high-efficiency, step-down DC/DC switching regulator IC. The evaluation kit can supply loads up to 6 A per output. Two outputs can be connected as a single output dual phase regulator supporting up to 12 A load current. The evaluation kit contains a fully assembled and tested MAX16712 PCB. Jumper pins, test points, and input/output connectors are included to provide flexibility and convenience in a variety of applications.
