Maxim introduces the MAX22530 isolated, self-powered field side 12-bit system monitor

     Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (NASDAQ: MXIM) announced the launch of the MAX22530 isolated, self-powered field side 12-bit system monitor, further expanding its MAXSafe™ technology product line. With four channels, the MAX22530 provides isolated system monitoring, 50 times higher accuracy and 40% smaller solution size by integrating five devices into a single chip IC.

     Automation system designers are constantly looking for ways to save board space, increase channel density, and improve the accuracy of voltage and current input monitoring, allowing operators to monitor the system more precisely and reduce system downtime. The MAX22530 offers a 50-fold increase in monitoring and measurement accuracy (from +/ -50% to just +/ -1%) compared to standard linear optocoupler isolation schemes consisting of discrete components. The device uses Maxim's unique integrated isolation technology, which combines a 12-bit ADC, DC-DC converter, user-adjustable threshold detection level, and chip-level diagnostics. This combination improves the stability of the current transfer ratio by 50 times, and can obtain the voltage of ultra-stable galvanic resistance.

     By enabling better measurement accuracy across four voltage and current inputs, the MAX22530 allows end users to make better real-time decisions, resulting in improved system performance and increased productivity. The high level of integration allows the overall solution to be only 250mm2 in size, which is 40% smaller than the nearest discrete competing solution (420mm2).

     The MAX22530 is the latest addition to the Maxim MAXSafe product line. MAXSafe products combine highly integrated isolated, micropower DC-DC converters and communication lines for field-side circuits that are isolated from control-side power while simplifying fault diagnosis for signal monitoring applications.
