Maxim Integrated Announces AI System Power Chipset with Highest Efficiency and Smallest Solution Size

Maxim Integrated Products, Inc announced the launch of MAX16602 dual-output regulated power supply for AI processor core power supply and MAX20790 intelligent power level IC, Help developers of high-performance, high-power artificial intelligence (AI) systems achieve design goals of maximum efficiency (reduced energy costs, reduced heat) and minimum solution size.

     Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. announces the MAX16602 dual-output regulated power supply for AI processor cores and the MAX20790 smart power-stage IC, helping developers of high-performance, high-power artificial intelligence (AI) systems achieve maximum efficiency (reduce energy costs) , reduce heat generation) and the design goal of minimum solution size. The AI multi-phase power chipset makes full use of Maxim Integrated's patented coupled inductor technology to suppress current ripple, increasing the efficiency by 1% compared to competing solutions; under the condition of 1.8V output voltage and 200A load, the efficiency is higher than 95%. In addition, the increased efficiency reduces energy waste by 16%. Compared with competing solutions, the size of the chipset's output capacitors is reduced by 40%, effectively reducing the overall solution size and number of capacitors. The chipset provides tailor-made solutions for users to customize to meet the requirements of different output currents and different sizes. In addition, the chipset is suitable for the power supply design of systems such as AI edge computing and data center cloud computing.

     In order to meet the rapidly growing demands of AI applications and deep learning, engineers working on the development of hyperscale data centers need to continuously improve the computing power of their systems, and at the same time, they are also dealing with many challenges such as the ever-increasing peak power and the resulting heat generation. Compared with competing solutions, the use of MAX16602 and MAX20790 multiphase chipsets can significantly reduce the heat generation of AI systems. Thanks to Maxim Integrated's patented coupled inductor technology and single-chip bilaterally cooled power stage IC design, the switching frequency can be reduced by 50%, resulting in lower power losses. The single-chip integrated solution eliminates parasitic resistance and inductance between the FET and driver, resulting in the industry's highest efficiency.

     While designers seek to enhance AI performance, space constraints also pose huge challenges. The power chipset provides users with the smallest overall solution size, allowing developers to reduce component count and bill of materials (BOM) costs. In addition, Maxim Integrated's low profile coupled inductor design allows higher saturation current per phase than competing solutions using discrete inductors, which helps reduce the number of operating phases of the power supply, helping designers overcome space constraints while at the same time The overall cost is also reduced.
