Infineon introduces a new generation of ZVS flyback converter chipsets

With the increasing popularity of USB-C power transfer (PD) charging technology, the demand for compatible chargers is also increasing throughout the consumer market. Today, users demand adapters that are powerful yet compact in design. The secondary side-controlled ZVS flyback converter chipset EZ-PD™ PAG2 from Infineon Technologies AG meets this need.

     With the increasing popularity of USB-C power transfer (PD) charging technology, the demand for compatible chargers is also increasing throughout the consumer market. Today, users demand adapters that are powerful yet compact in design. The secondary side-controlled ZVS flyback converter chipset EZ-PD PAG2 from Infineon Technologies AG meets this need. The chipset consists of two different models, EZ-PD PAG2P and EZ-PD PAG2S, which integrate USB PD, synchronous rectifier and PWM controller.

 

     It enables efficient communication and isolation between the primary and secondary sides using the pulse-edge converter (PET) CYPET121. The product improves efficiency by supporting innovative non-complementary Active clamp-flyback (NCP-ACF) and zero-voltage switching quasi-resonant flyback (QR-ZVS) topologies for energy efficient USB-C adapters, chargers and travel adapters.

 

     The EZ-PD PAG2 series chipsets provide a versatile and efficient power transmission solution for a variety of applications. The chipset supports PD 3.1 Standard Power Range (SPR) with programmable power supply (PPS) and 28V Extended Power Range (EPR) for fast and reliable charging. At the same time, the chipset is suitable for a variety of power, compatible with charging protocols such as BC v1.2, AFC, Apple Charging and QC5.0, and supports universal AC line inputs from 90 VAC to 265 VAC, increasing the availability of this semiconductor device worldwide.

 

     The product enables programmable soft start using external ss capacitors with controlled power-on, discontinuous on-mode (DCM), critical on-mode (CrCM) and continuous on-mode (CCM), as well as burst and jump modes for different load conditions. This adaptability makes it ideal for charging devices and devices in different regions. The features of the EZ-PD PAG2 series chipsets ensure efficient and flexible power management to meet a wide range of needs.
