Following this development trend, Infineon Technologies AG presents the OptiMOS 6 100 V series with new power MOSFET technology. The new products are specifically optimized for high switching frequency applications such as telecom and solar, where losses are related to charge (switching) and on-resistance (conduction). At the same time, it features extremely low on-resistance and a wider safe operating area (SOA), making it ideal for battery powered applications (BPA) and battery management systems (BMS).
The OptiMOS 6 100 V series MOSFETs feature a novel design concept with lower on-resistance and best-in-class figure of merit (FOM). Extremely low on-resistance and excellent switching performance allow OptiMOS 6 to simplify thermal design and reduce the number of components that need to be paralleled, resulting in superior efficiency, higher power density, lower system cost, and extended Product life.
Especially in the field of telecommunications, OptiMOS 6 is more disruptive. Compared with the advanced OptiMOS 5 currently on the market, its on-resistance is reduced by 18% and FOM is reduced by more than 30%. In a 600 W, -(36-60) V to 12 V ZVS buck-boost converter, OptiMOS 6 in SuperSO8 package with 2.2 mΩ on-resistance improves energy efficiency over OptiMOS 5 BSC027N10NS5 (2.7 mΩ) 1%, stable operation can be achieved over the entire load range. Thanks to low charge and low on-resistance, it reduces power loss by 7 W and increases power density by 15%. In addition, the OptiMOS 6 100 V series has another very important advantage, which is the ability to reduce conduction and switching losses and minimize the number of components that need to be paralleled.
OptiMOS 6 100 V is an energy-efficient solution that contributes to a green and low-carbon world. In the power system architecture of the telecommunications sector, the use of new MOSFET technology can save the equivalent of the electricity consumption of 170 households per year. These devices can reduce electricity costs by 1 million euros over ten years.
