Infineon introduces MIPAQ Pro, an intelligent power module with intelligent protection

     Infineon Technologies introduces the new Intelligent Power Module (IPM)MIPAQ Pro. MIPAQ Pro provides an all-in-one solution that enables a wide range of scalable compact inverter designs in wind, solar and industrial drive applications. The MIPAQ™Pro is a fully proven and fully tested IPM that integrates IGBTs, gate drivers, heat sinks, sensors, CNC electronics, and digital bus communications in a reliable and durable package. High-performance subsystems can provide high power density and a large secure workspace (SOA). In addition to a high degree of modularity, increased design flexibility and security, the innovative features of MIPAQ  Pro provide new ways to protect IPM.

     Authentication is key to achieving secure and reliable system design in concepts like the Internet of Things (IoT). For this purpose, the MIPAQ Pro integrates Infineon Security microcontrollers. Infineon certificates are embedded to support authentication of original parts. In addition, independent certificates can be stored to authenticate the IPM installed in the system. In this way, high quality and reliability of the original system can be guaranteed in the short term and, more importantly, in the long term. In addition, if the power level can be certified, then the system manufacturer can also achieve control over the after-sales business.

     MIPAQ Pro has excellent protection technology. All key operating parameters, such as output current (Iout), DC bus voltage (UDC), PCB temperature (TPCB) and switching frequency (fsw), are closely monitored and alarm signals are issued. In addition, the module continuously calculates and monitors the operating temperature (Tvjop) of the IGBTs and diodes. In this way, it is possible to ensure the safe operation of IPM within the specified scope. Newly designed intelligent protection features significantly increase application uptime. The module allows rapid adjustment of system parameters through digital bus communication, while an optional slot is available for signal matching. As a result, system manufacturers can develop designs quickly and smoothly, and MIPAQ Pro in a ready state ensures that products are quickly brought to market.

     MIPAQ Pro provides a modular scalable inverter solution. Up to four new IPMs can be connected in parallel to achieve a power range of up to 7 MW. In addition to the parallel, an adjustable delay setting is also used, which ensures a balanced setup of the entire inverter. The new IPM uses a half-bridge configuration with a blocking voltage of 1200V or 1700V. Its small footprint, high output power, and support for current ratings up to 2400 A can support compact inverter designs. Compared to previous solutions such as ModSTACK  C, MIPAQ™ Pro offers up to 35% higher power density. In addition, the new high-power IPM offers both liquid and air cooled radiators.
