Harwin Expands Surface Mount PCB Socket Portfolio

     Harwin has recently expanded its printed circuit board socket product portfolio with additional sizes for the popular Sycamore Contact series. Engineers can use these 6A rated surface mount PCB sockets for different designs, and each socket can be placed freely on the board without being restricted by the connector housing.

     Harwin has introduced two new products that complement the existing 3.87mm length sockets and accept either 0.8 to 1.3mm or 1.5 to 1.9mm mating pins, these new products have a longer body length of 5.87mm, which means This makes them suitable for integration into deeper PCBs and can accommodate longer socket pins. While both are bottom entry, they can be used upside down as a top entry receptacle.

    The key to the design of these PCB sockets is that they have three contacts, while other surface mount sockets only have two. As a result, the electrical connection is always maintained, even under the influence of vibration forces, without the risk of interruption of continuity.

    These sockets feature a gold-plated design to maximize conductivity, reduce mechanical wear, ensure long-term operation, and feature high durability of 500 mating cycles. Due to the use of beryllium copper material, it can support the operating temperature range of -50 to +125 °C. The newest Sycamore Contacts are ideal to provide higher value for applications such as battery management systems for electric vehicles, solid state lighting panels, home and commercial grade gas detection systems, fire alarms, smart metering devices and more. Because these products are surface mountable and available in tape and reel, it is easier for PCB designers to integrate them into products, especially for high volume manufacturing processes. This means that no separate placement or welding operations are required, thus maintaining a high throughput rate of the production process.
