
Fluke Networks introduces new durable metal LC Reference test jumpers and access fiber, which will become standard on all LC terminating test jumpers. Traditional LC connectors have a monolithic plastic design that causes the latch structure to bend and eventually break, requiring replacement when used repeatedly during testing. The Fluke Network Metal LC latch system features a multi-piece metal design that separates from the main body and does not bend, significantly increasing the service life of the latch structure and extending the service life of LC connectors, test reference jumpers and access fibers.
"For years, contractors who have tested a large number of LC terminating links have complained about LC connector latch failures resulting in project delays and increased costs," said Adrian Young, Fiber product Manager at Fluke Networks. "After extensive engineering and testing, we are pleased to announce that the fiber test lines will be equipped with extremely durable metal LC connectors. These metal LC connectors are fully compliant with the TIA 604-10-B standard: Fiber Optic Connector Interoperability Standard - LC Type."
Typical LC connectors do not last long in the field with test wires because their latching system, which is used to engage and detach fiber optic connectors from individual components, is prone to failure. With the new Fluke Network Metal LC design, the latch is no longer bent to engage and detach optical components such as adapters, and the life of the latch system is greatly improved, thus extending the service life of LC connectors. By extending the service life of the test line, the user can save money and, more importantly, reduce project delays due to the replacement of the test line.
"The plastic latches on our LC test lines always break before the cables wear out. As a result, we encounter a lot of these issues in our data center installation projects, "said Jason Zasada, Technology Solutions leader at Faith Technologies Incorporated, a leader in electrical engineering planning, design and installation. "We have found this new metal connector to be more robust and I am advising Faith to adopt it, especially for our larger projects."
Fluke Networks Metal LC connectors have been tested up to 10,000 times without any impact on performance and have passed all Telecordia GR-326-CORE durability tests, including exposure to heat, humidity, vibration, bending, shock and salt spray. The new metal LC test cable is used in conjunction with the Fluke Permanent Link Adapter, which features an industry-unique durable metal connector designed for test module sockets (" RJ-45 ") to end twisted pair wiring links.
