Flextronics Power Modules Introduce Switched Capacitor Intermediate Bus Converters

     The BMR310 is manufactured based on Infineon Technologies' proprietary Zero-Voltage Switched-Capacitor Converter (ZSC) technology, which can achieve over 98% efficiency under half-load conditions, has a small package, and can continuously provide up to 875W of output power. It can operate from an input voltage range of 40V to 60V, resulting in an unregulated output voltage of 10V to 15V.

     For data center and high performance computing (HPC) applications, the industry is moving away from 12V to 48V distribution in order to reduce distribution current and power losses. To meet this growing demand, Infineon's ZSC technology offers the highest efficiency and power density for applications using an intermediate bus voltage of 48V. This is due to capacitive energy transfer and the use of power MOSFET soft-switching technology, which can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO), enabling a simple and low-risk transition from a traditional 12V system to a 48V bus.

     The BMR310 is installed horizontally, and its height is only 10.3mm, which is very suitable for systems where space is tight due to the use of large radiators or cold plates. Its dimensions are 58.4mm×25mm×10.3mm (2.3in×0.98in×0.41in). Its current mounting scheme is a baseplate type, but future models will also offer an open type.

     In order to maximize the working life, the BMR310 includes functions such as overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature protection. Like all Flextronics power module DC/DC converters, it meets the IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 safety specification.

     The product utilizes passive droop load sharing technology to support paralleling of converters, so that paralleling of multiple converters can be used to provide higher power when needed. The BMR310 is also compatible with the Flex Power Designer software tool, and the new converter also includes a PMBus interface for digital control.
