Flex Power Modules has released a switched-capacitor intermediate bus converter

     Flex Power Modules has released the BMR310, a non-isolated Switched-capacitor Intermediate Bus Converter (IBC) that provides high power density for data center applications, improving board space utilization and freeing up space for other components.The BMR310 is based on Infineon Technologies' proprietary zero-voltage switched switched Capacitor Converter (ZSC) technology, which achieves more than 98% efficiency at half load, a small product package, and continuous output power of up to 875W. It can operate in the input voltage range of 40V to 60V, and get an unregulated output voltage of 10V to 15V.

     For data center and high performance computing (HPC) applications, the industry is moving away from 12V to 48V distribution in order to reduce distribution current and power losses. To meet this growing demand, Infineon's ZSC technology offers the highest efficiency and power density for applications using 48V intermediate bus voltages. This is due to the capacitive energy transfer and the adoption of power MOSFET soft switching technology, so it can significantly reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) and achieve a simple and low-risk transition from a traditional 12V system to a 48V bus.

     The BMR310 is mounted horizontally and has a height of only 10.3mm, making it ideal for systems where space is tight with large radiators or cold plates. Its dimensions are 58.4mm×25mm×10.3mm (2.3in×0.98in×0.41in). Its current installation scheme is base plate, but future models will also be available in open type.To maximize operating life, the BMR310 includes overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature protection. As with all Flextronics DC/DC converters for power modules, they comply with the IEC/EN/UL 62368-1 safety specification.

     The product uses passive droop load sharing technology to realize the parallel support of converters, so that multiple converters can be used in parallel to provide higher power when needed. The BMR310 is also compatible with the Flex Power Designer software tool, and the new converter also includes a PMBus interface for digital control.
