Cypress introduces the sixth generation of USB-C controllers for PCS and laptops

     Cypress Semiconductor Corporation announced the launch of the EZ-PD CCG6DF and CCG6SF, a new generation of USB-C controllers with Power transmission capability (PD). The new dual port and single port USB-C controllers will provide the highest BOM integration for a new generation of laptops and desktops, reducing the board area while also reducing costs for Oems. In addition, the new EZ-PD controller also supports the latest USB4™ standard and Intel Thunderbolt™ platform.

     Cypress's latest EZ-PD series USB-C controllers integrate a number of features, including load switches with fail-safe VBUS supply direction, a major design advance over the previous generation. Both controllers feature an embedded 32-bit Arm® Cortex®-M0 processor with 64KB of flash memory for enhanced programmability and firmware upgrades to support the newly introduced USB4 standard. The USB4 standard greatly increases the data transfer rate to 40Gb/s, and also supports USB 3.2, DisplayPort, and PCIe simultaneously. At present, two controllers are available in prototype, package configurations including 96-pin BGA package and 48-pin QFN package.

     The USB-C interface standard is gradually being widely adopted by the world's leading PC manufacturers, peripheral and accessory manufacturers. A USB-C interface cable not only has a standard, reversible blind plug, but also meets the power supply and data transmission needs of the device. USB-C provides up to 100W of power supply while consolidating many different types of interfaces onto the same port. The benefits of USB-C don't end there, with support for standards such as USB4, Thunderbolt, DisplayPort and HDMI.
