Bourns Introduces Two Automotive-Grade High-Current Shielded Power Inductor Series Offering Enhanced Mechanical Strength

     Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, announces two new families of automotive-grade high-current shielded power inductors that provide enhanced mechanical strength for harsh vibration applications. The Bourns® Model SRP1038WA and SRP1265WA Shielded Power Inductor series are designed with wider side terminal leadframes to withstand 15 G typical or 30 G peak vibration, thus exceeding the AEC-Q200 standard requirement of 5 G by a factor of 3 and 6, respectively*. Vibration testing is performed according to MIL-STD-202 Method 204.

     Both series also feature compact packages, high saturation current, low DC resistance, low buzzer noise, and excellent temperature stability C over a wide temperature range of –55 to +165°. These features make these AEC-Q200 qualified automotive-grade power inductors ideal for power management and EMI filtering in a variety of consumer, automotive, industrial, and telecom electronics applications.

     These two new series add advanced features to Bourns' industry-leading portfolio of shielded power inductors and increase the width of the side terminal frame by more than 50% compared to existing Bourns® models without increasing package size or required printing board area. Bourns utilizes a uniquely formulated metal alloy powder core and binder, and uses a molded construction manufacturing process where the magnetic shield design allows for low radiation, while the metal alloy powder core provides high saturation current.

     High temperature grade materials are used to achieve a wide operating temperature range for a variety of harsh environment applications. These new models have a maximum operating temperature of +165 °C, 10% higher than standard Bourns® model SRP-A power inductors, and offer more headroom to maintain even in challenging environmental conditions Rated working current.
