Analog Devices, Inc. announces two nanoPower modules from a family of fundamental analog high-efficiency power ICs with built-in inductors that help designers extend battery life and reduce size in space-constrained Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The MAXM38643 offers a 1.8V to 5.5V input, 330nA quiescent current (IQ), 600mA step-down module, and the MAXM17225 offers a 0.4V to 5.5V input, 300nA IQ, true-shutdown 1A step-up module with lower IQ compared to competing solutions , providing longer battery life. By integrating preset inductors, these miniature system-level IC modules (uSLIC™) speed time-to-market and are 37% smaller than stand-alone IC-plus-external inductor solutions. Applications include space-constrained consumer products, wearables, medical drug delivery, sensors, IoT devices, and wired, wireless, and industrial products.
Battery powered IoT devices require lower IQ in standby mode to provide longer battery life. In addition, ultra-low shutdown currents (0.5nA for the MAXM17225 and 1nA for the MAXM38643) enable the system to consume virtually zero power during shutdown. Both the MAXM38643 and MAXM17225 have an order of magnitude lower quiescent current (1/10 and 1/20, respectively) than competing solutions with the same output current. In addition, the peak efficiencies of the MAXM38643 and MAXM17225 are 96% and 95%, respectively, ranking first among competing solutions. As a result, these modules consume less power, providing longer life and reducing the carbon footprint of battery-powered and long-term on-line devices. Both products feature Analog Devices' uSLIC power module technology, which provides stacked, integrated inductors, enabling designers to reduce solution PCB surface area and eliminate component selection and board layout time.
"In addition to extending battery life in next-generation miniature IoT devices, the nanoPower MAXM38643 buck and MAXM17225 boost modules can improve the functionality of many sensor, radio and digital circuits in consumer, medical and industrial applications that require lower IQ and higher output current,” said Chinmay Honrao, business manager for standard power products in Analog Devices’ core products division.
Basic analog ICs leverage Analog Devices' consistent strengths in low-power, high-performance, single-function products, and will drive next-generation innovation in a variety of applications and markets.
