Analog Devices' AD3552R family of 16-bit, 30/20 MUPS, multi-span output, multi-IO SPI DACs

ADI's AD3552R series is a low-drift, ultra-fast, 16-bit precision, current-output digital-to-analog converter (DAC) designed to generate multiple output voltage spans. It has high precision performance, lower latency, shorter setup time, and faster update rate. The device contains three drift compensated feedback resistors for the external transresistance amplifier (TIA) required to regulate the output voltage.

     ADI's AD3552R family is a low-drift, ultra-fast, 16-bit precision, current output digital-to-analog converter (DAC) designed to generate multiple output voltage span ranges. It has high precision performance, lower latency, faster settling time and faster update rate. Applications can thus increase control loop bandwidth, control applications can use less system time, or run more complex algorithms and create faster, more precise excitation signals.

     The device contains three drift compensation feedback resistors for the external transimpedance amplifier (TIA) required to regulate the output voltage. Offset and gain adjustment registers allow generation of multiple output span ranges such as 0 V to 2.5 V, 0 V to 5 V, 0 V to 10 V, -5 V to +5 V and -10 V to +10 V, and Custom mid-range with full 16-bit resolution.

     The DAC can be run in fast mode for maximum speed or precision mode for maximum accuracy. The SPI can be configured in single SPI (classic SPI) mode, dual SPI mode, synchronous dual SPI mode, and quad SPI mode with single data rate (SDR) or double data rate (DDR) with logic levels from 1.2 V to 1.8 V. To improve device robustness, Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) can be enabled. Multiple error checkers are also integrated to detect VREF failure or memory map corruption.

     The EVAL-AD3552RFMCxZ is an evaluation board for the AD3552R ultrafast 16-bit precision DAC. There are two variants of this board: the EVAL-AD3552RFMC1Z, which is optimized for high bandwidth and higher speed, and the EVALAD3552RFMC2Z, which is optimized for accuracy. The only difference between the boards is the transimpedance amplifier and its corresponding feedback capacitor. The board allows testing of all output ranges, waveform generation, power and reference options of the DAC.

     The EVAL-AD3552RFMCxZ board is connected to the USB port of the PC through the system demonstration platform (SDP-H1 board). It can also be connected to different controller boards using the pin header connector at the P5 position
