     Ams announces the latest magnetic rotating position sensor in the 47 series. With higher speed and more precise incremental output, the sensor can be used for motor and motion control.

 

     Like the rest of the ams 47 series, the new AS5047P features DAEC(Dynamic Angle Error Compensation) technology that accurately measures angles even at very high RPM. The high RPM performance and ABI incremental output of the 47 Series magnetic sensors make them a perfect replacement for optical encoders. Based on designs developed in the 47 series, the total cost of the system is usually much lower than that of an optical encoder or rotary transformer of equivalent effect.

 

     The AS5047P sensor has a maximum measurement speed rating increased from 14,500rpm to 28,000rpm for high speed shaft applications that previously required the use of optical encoders.

 

     Ams also increases the number of run steps for the device's incremental ABI output. The ABI output of the 47 series is identical to that of a standard optical encoder, so motor control system designers can replace an optical encoder with an ams magnetic position sensor without changing the control software or interface. The AS5047P ABI outputs a maximum resolution of 4,000 steps /1,000 pulses per revolution in decimal mode and 4,096 steps /1,024 pulses per revolution in binary mode. This means that magnetic position sensors will be able to replace optical encoders in more applications.

 

     In addition, the standard 4-wire SPI serial interface of the AS5047P allows the host microcontroller to read the 14 bits of absolute angular position data within the AS5047P, enabling non-volatile Settings to be programmed without a specialized programmer. The device also provides a standard UVW commutator interface for brushless DC motors, eliminating the need for a separate Hall sensor switch and providing a single IC to support motor positioning and control applications. The PWM encoded output signal can provide absolute angular position information.

 

     Like ams' other magnetic position sensors, the AS5047P is highly immune to stray magnetic fields and is not affected by dirt, dust, grease, moisture and other contaminants that typically degrade optical encoders' performance.

 

     The AS5047P features DAEC technology that compensates for dynamic Angle errors caused by propagation delays in the sensor processing of raw measurement data of magnetic field strength. DAEC technology eliminates the need for system designers to use a separate error compensation circuit on an external DSP or microcontroller. This technology also enables the AS5047P to achieve extremely high accuracy, with a maximum error of only 0.34°(excluding nonlinear integrals) at continuous speeds of 28,000rpm.
