Add highly integrated configurable point-of-load power converters to ST's space-grade power portfolio

     A QML-V certified 7A Point of Load (PoL) DC/DC converter has been added to ST's expanding portfolio of radiation-hardened (rad-hard) integrated power products. St's radiation-hardened power products are highly energy efficient and suitable for very demanding space applications.

     The RHRPMPOL01 is a fully functional PoL current converter with N-channel Power MOSFETs and bootstrap diodes for undervoltage, overvoltage, overheat and configurable overcurrent protection in a compact Power FLAT-28A ceramic package with very low thermal resistance to the enclosure. Can maximize the efficiency of heat dissipation.

     This certified device complies with Microcircuit Diagram (SMD) 5962-28208 with radiation Hardened Assurance level (RHA) up to 100krad(Si) total ionization dose, single particle locking (SEL) and single particle Fast reversal (SESB) thresholds up to 70Mev.cm2/mq. Single particle flip (SEU) and single particle Function Interrupt (SEFI) are calibrated at 7V operating voltage.

     The RHRPMPOL01 supports synchronous operation and current sharing, making it an ideal companion chip for the most demanding workloads such as FPGas, microprocessors and ASics. The synchronous operation function allows phase shifting of multiple PoL points to minimize the peak current of the application board and the output ripple of the converter, ensuring a highly accurate output current. Synchronization allows converters to use separate output pins to power loads that require different voltage values, and to link output pins together to drive high-current loads with high-precision current sharing.

     The RHRPMPOL01 has a maximum absolute rated supply voltage of up to 14V, an input voltage range of 3.0V to 12V and an output voltage adjustable from 0.8V to 85% of the input voltage value. A minimum output voltage of 0.8V allows the converter to power advanced devices with low supply voltages.

     Peak current mode control, in conjunction with external components, makes it easy for the RHRPMPOL01 to maintain steady current output and ensure fast load transient response. The switching frequency can be set between 100 KHZ and 1MHz, and configurable soft start times and delays allow designers to limit inrush current. Enable pins to simplify power ordering, and power good pins report real-time information about output voltage status.

     STMicroelectronics' BCD6s SOI process technology delivers excellent resistance to single particle effects, and the RHRPMPOL1, which integrates this technology, was developed with technical support from the European Space Agency (ESA) and the French Space Agency CNES.
