
Analog Devices has announced a strategic partnership with Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), which plans to introduce the automotive industry's first fully digital road noise reduction system using ADI Automotive Audio Bus (A2B) technology. Hyundai Motor also plans to adopt ADI's A2B technology more widely in the underlying audio connectivity and infotainment systems of its automotive products.
Dr. Kang-Duck Ih, a researcher at Hyundai Motor Company, said, "As an early adopter of A2B technology, we realized that this technology is suitable not only for road noise Active Noise Control (RANC) systems, but also for other vehicle applications that improve the passenger and driver experience. The A2B technology ensures low latency, allowing us to implement this ground-breaking RANC technology and accelerate to mass production."
Hyundai's RANC system significantly reduces cockpit noise. The system can analyze all kinds of noise in real time and generate anti-crosstalk wave. This new technology can deal with many different types of road noise, such as the resonance between tires and wheels, or the roar from the road surface.
Patrick Morgan, vice president, Automotive Electrification and infotainment at Analog Devices, said: "We have worked closely with Hyundai to create a fully digital RANC system, leveraging our A2B technology to reduce equipment cost, weight and design complexity, thereby improving overall fuel efficiency and helping address many of the challenges of electronic RANC systems." ADI's collaboration with Hyundai Motor Company not only confirms the growing importance of A2B technology, but also further enhances Hyundai's market competitiveness."
A2B technology can reduce cable weight by up to 75%, improve vehicle fuel efficiency, and reduce total system costs. ADI's A2B technology is the industry's lowest-latency, high-speed digital interconnection technology that delivers audio, control data, clock, and power over a single unshielded twisted pair. At present, the deployment of automotive road noise reduction systems requires a cost-effective low-latency network technology that can efficiently connect the required input sensors to the central processing unit. ADI's A2B technology significantly reduces the associated harness cost and complexity compared to traditional path noise reduction system solutions based on analog technology.
ADI's partnership with Hyundai underscores the importance of A2B in automotive applications, where automakers are using the technology for emerging line-intensive and delay-sensitive applications, including road noise reduction, in-car communications, and personalized audio or sound partitioning.
