ADI has introduced the latest basic analog nanoPower module to extend battery life for space-constrained applications

Analog Devices, Inc introduced two basic analog high efficiency power IC series nanoPower modules with built-in inductors, which can help designers extend the battery life and reduce the size of space constrained Internet of Things (IoT) devices. MAXM38643 provides 1.8V to 5.5V input, 330nA static current (IQ), 600mA step-down module, and MAXM17225 provides 0.4V to 5.5V input, 300nA IQ, and true off 1A step-up module. Compared with the competitive solution, it has lower IQ and longer battery life

     Analog Devices, Inc announced the launch of two basic analog efficient power supply IC series nanoPower modules with built-in inductors that help designers extend battery life and reduce size in space-constrained Internet of Things (IoT) devices. The MAXM38643 offers 1.8V to 5.5V input, 330nA static current (IQ), 600mA stepdown modules, and the MAXM17225 offers 0.4V to 5.5V input, 300nA IQ, and true turn-off 1A stepup modules, offering lower IQ and longer battery life than competing solutions. By integrating preset inductors, these miniature system-level IC modules (uSLIC™) can accelerate time-to-market and reduce the size by 37% over the stand-alone IC plus external inductor solution. Applications include space-constrained consumer products, wearables, medical and drug delivery, sensors, IoT devices, and wired, wireless and industrial products.


     Battery-powered IoT devices require lower IQ in standby mode to provide longer battery life. In addition, the ultra-low turn-off current (0.5nA for MAXM17225 and 1nA for MAXM38643) enables the system to consume almost zero power during the turn-off mode. The static current of both MAXM38643 and MAXM17225 is one order of magnitude lower (1/10 and 1/20, respectively) than that of competing schemes with the same output current. In addition, the MAXM38643 and MAXM17225 have a peak efficiency of 96% and 95%, respectively, which ranks first among the competing solutions. As a result, these modules consume less power, thus providing longer life and reducing carbon emissions from battery-powered and long-term online devices. Both models use Analog Devices' uSLIC power module technology and offer stackable, integrated inductors that allow designers to reduce the surface area of their solutions' PCBS, as well as time for component selection and board layout.
